Wanting to “get it right”

The problem with wanting to get it right before you send the email or text message or go and chat to someone is that you end up getting stuck in fear and indecision.

Because when will you know that it is “right” or “perfect” enough to be ok to send?

The truth is that you can always improve on written and spoken conversation or say things differently.  It’s because as human beings we are evolving and growing a little more each day. Sometimes a lot more!! You are not the same person that woke up yesterday morning and got on with the day. You’ve already changed since then. I promise you that you have. You just need to really tune in and see it!

Believing that there is a right way to do something will have you waiting around FOREVER. Because you won’t get into authentic action. There will always be something else to improve on. It’s a part of life.

So how do you get going when you have the fear of wanting to get things right?

By going for it and doing the thing scared!! By accepting that things will always feel scary.

And also by understanding that the first few times you do something you are going to suck at it. Don’t expect to be perfect. You will get better the more times you attempt something.

As an example the first time I created a YouTube video with myself on camera I remember thinking “oh gosh I HATE the sound of my own voice!”. But with spending so much time editing and amending the video I ended up getting used to the sound of my voice. I wouldn’t say that I like the sound of my voice completely today but what I will say is that it bothers me much much less than before. I’ve learned to accept my voice for what is – my own voice. My own unique voice. No one else has a voice like mine.
