Past evidence

Living your life using past evidence as an indicator of the future is a dangerous thing to do.

Just because something didn’t work out once, or however many times you tried before, doesn’t mean that you are doomed to repeat the same situation.

It’s all in how you frame the situation and how you look at each new situation mentally.

For example if you have struggled to lose weight in the past you might be thinking “I’ve always struggled to lose weight before so why would now be any different??”. The problem with this thought is that when you go into each new workout or eating routine you will not be 100% committed to change. This is because deep down you have the thought that you haven’t been able to do it before and therefore this new scenario will also end the same. When you have these thoughts you end up in a tug of war situation with your brain and ultimately the doubting thoughts win.

A power thought to try when going into new situations is “how could this new project work?” or “how could this create everything I’ve ever wanted?”. Both of these come with a very different energy to being resigned to failure.

You cannot go into a new situation with old thinking and expect to have drastically different results!! New thinking creates new results! Old thinking creates the same results you have had before.

Thinking in a new way feels uncomfortable to your brain because it takes a long time to wire new thoughts and for them to real. It’s completely normal because over the past years your brain has felt comfortable thinking what it has thought (whether it has served you or not). It doesn’t want to now change all its thinking even if that means you getting the life you’ve always wanted. It sounds so strange right? On one side you want the life you have dreamed of but on the other side your mind is resistant to think something new. Why?

Because thinking something new and then potentially not getting the result feels terrifying to your brain. It would rather think the same things and feel comfortable than think something new and not know what to expect. Here’s the thing; in the unknown space comes the pure potential for change. You cannot change your life from where you currently stand. You must move forward, even it’s one tiny step at a time. You must move!

If something hasn’t worked before I want you to identify what thoughts you have about the situation and write them all down without censoring them or reasoning with your mind. Just write them down. Then have a look at thoughts that keep popping up. See If you can’t find a theme. For example if the thought “I don’t know how to lose weight” keeps coming up then uncertainty is a theme and so on. Identifying themes helps you to know where your limiting beliefs are and then you have a starting point to work from.
