What are your non-negotiables?

First of all, what on earth is a non-negotiable?

It’s something you make space for in your day and NOTHING can postpone that or make it less important [yes that is literally a definition I just made up but it works for me]

It is something that is important to you as part of your bigger values in life. For example if having a healthy body is important to you then a non-negotiable might be to move your body for 30 minutes daily or to eat a balanced meal three times a day. It won’t be the same from one person to another as each person have different life values and a vastly different big picture vision. Healthy living looks different from one person to another so please don’t compare your non-negotiables to another person!

With that being said, here are my daily non-negotiables:

1.      Journaling for 15 to 30 minutes

2.      Reading a book for a maximum of 30 minutes

3.      Moving my body for 45 minutes (15mins on days where I’m stuck in my head and not wanting to do anything)

4.      Have a breakfast super smoothie

Now you might look at that list and feel instantly overwhelmed and think “there is no way I want to do that every morning!”

GOOD! Because it’s my daily non-negotiables not yours haha.

Your daily non-negotiables are not meant to overwhelm you, they might stretch you a little from where you are now but they are not meant to push you over the edge!

The reason behind each of mine is these:

Journaling – I’m a coach and part of my life’s work is to heal my past and triggers and to help those around me. Journaling helps me to spill onto paper anything that is in my mind and heart without censorship or judgement.

Reading – I love reading but sometimes I get into overthinking land and guilt myself out of reading with thoughts like “I have too much to do” or “I can’t sit down and read when I’m already behind on my to do list”. So, for me building in time for this in my morning routine means I’m starting the day with something fun. Plus it heals my soul to put myself first rather than last. Let’s face it, when you tell yourself you will have fun in the evening after a busy day how often do you actually follow through??!!!. Will people make me feel guilty for having fun first thing in the morning? You bet! But does it bother me? Not anymore (if you struggle with this come work with me and we’ll put the guilt and shame in the bin around your hobbies!).

Moving my body – this is part of my life goal of being healthy enough to spend time with my niece and nephew and watch them grow into adults and create a life full of memories. I also want to start a family of my own and I want to encourage my own child to focus on health in a positive healing way.

Breakfast super smoothie – this is because having a smoothie is one of the only ways I trust myself to not skip breakfast and it helps me get in all the essential nutrients like fibre and vitamins to start the day properly!

Now you know what my daily non-negotiables are and a little bit behind each of them – what are some of your non-negotiables or things you want to become part of your daily life?
